Defining the v.me e-wallet proposition
Visa had been working on development of a new e-wallet proposition or over 18 months when we were asked to step in and accelerate progress in defining the proposition.
Their challenges
Since Visa Europe’s separation from Visa Inc in 2004 the focus has predominantly been on developing the technology, fraud prevention and operating rules for the existing card payments systems. The project to develop and deliver the new e-wallet was being led from an IT perspective and key aspects of the proposition definition were not progressing as expected. The sheer complexity of the proposition and a lack of understanding of the end-game within the business had prevented decisions from being reached.
The approach
The first step was to convince key stakeholders, the Marketing Director, CIO and Head of Change that the scale and complexity of the business change required a programme management approach. Our consultant undertook the role of interim Programme Director to establish a programme structure.
The next steps were to organise very targeted workshops to finalise the proposition and elicit a catalogue of business requirements. Having the relevant business requirements in place enabled the main IT development partner to advance production of its technical architecture and technical specifications.
To further accelerate delivery we worked with the senior management to adopt an iterative delivery approach rather than the existing waterfall method. This enabled us to move the delivery matrix into more time-boxed delivery sprints.
